Hi Tim,
I don't know if the Clymer manual is the same as we use over here in Germany, anyway
it's a repair manual, and a rather good one.
I've done the adjustment myself and it figured out to be a pretty itchy thing. When reducing
the space between rocker and valve you have to turn clockwise. The counternut on top tightens
clockwise as well.
I found out that it's very itchy to adjust both sides exactly the same, always had the problem
that one side deadjusted again when I controlled and readjusted the other. I thought I was pretty
accurate but I always had a ticking noise when finished and cranked up the engine.
Finally took it to the local Suzuki dealer, told him to just adjust the valves, nothing else.
Thats what he did, and did a good job, too. Wasn't too expensive, he even explained
to me why it's so difficlut to adjust both sides exactly the same.
The rockers are practically "hanging" on a somehow "lose" bar (my english is rotten, sorry) and
the opposite side will eventually alter it's adjustment when you control and
readjust the other.
Hope this helps and I haven't frightend you,
happy adjusting and always safe riding,
Alfred.
